What is the Friends in the Community Home Nursing?
The Friends in the Community Home Nursing service is part of The League of Friends of Fairford Hospital. It supplements the care given by the local GPs and District Nurses for patients who need palliative care and wish to remain at home.
Who is covered by the Service?
Anyone who is a patient of either the Fairford or Lechlade GPs practice, and where the District Nurse feels that the patient needs our help. This can be provided for a period up to 8 weeks.
Who runs the Service
The service is nursing led and run by a Nursing Co-ordinator and two Deputy Nursing Co-ordinators.
Who pays for the nursing care?
There is no charge to the patient or to their family. Our nurses are paid by the League of Friends at NHS rates, and are covered by medical malpractice insurance.
Who contacts the Home Nursing Team?
The District Nurse contacts our Nursing Co-ordinator who makes all the necessary arrangements.
Who does the nursing
A team of registered nurses and health care assistants drawn from the local area, who are known to many. The care is subject to availability. The nurses are able to provide support to the family as well as to the patient, and work as a team with District Nurses and other medical services.
We frequently receive letters from family members in appreciation of the excellent care given by the Home Nursing Team and below is an example recently sent to the League.
"Would you please pass on my thanks to the League of Friends Fairford Hospital for the care provided to my father before his death. He needed help suddenly and the League provided that help, at short notice and free of charge, until a more permanent solution could be arranged.
Without the visits of your care assistant he could not have stayed in his own home and knowing she was calling supported our family with his care." ---------------------------------------------------------------
The Friends in the Community Home Nursing Team service is registered by the Care Quality Commission (Provider ID 1-101 657 482, listed as Reevey Gate Cottage) and is licensed to provide services.
