The League of Friends of the Fairford Hospital (1006416)
We are looking for new Trustees to take a proactive role in our Charity. All experiences and backgrounds welcome. Meetings are quarterly and there are a range of sub committees to specialise in.
our mission
We support the care and wellbeing of people in our community by bringing healthcare as close to home as possible and working against loneliness and isolation.
who we are
We are a registered charity led by a Board of Trustees made up of volunteers from the local community. We support people in Fairford, Lechlade and the surrounding villages and fund services that cost over £100,000 per year. We work closely with local organisations to fund a variety of community services ranging from one-off projects to ongoing support.
Our support activities include the Home Nursing Service, Patient Transport, Edna Dawes Lunch Club, Bereavement Cafe, Prescription Delivery, and grant funding to other organisations that work towards our mission.
We succeed through the generosity, support and commitment of our community and the hard work of our volunteers. We fund our services via our Charity Shop, fundraising events, the annual House to House Collection, and regular and one-off donations and legacies.
where we come from
The organisation is comprised of two charities, the League of Friends of the Fairford Hospital (charity number 1006416) and The Friends of Fairford and Lechlade Communities (1180059).
The League of Friends was incorporated as a charity in 1991 and supported Fairford Hospital when it was still operating with Inpatient beds. The charity successfully supported this vital service for many years but unfortunately Fairford Hospital lost its beds in 2007 and is now an Outpatients Clinic.
With this shift the charity shifted its focus to supporting the health needs of the local community outside the Hospital and bringing healthcare as close to home as possible. In 2019 a new Charitable Incorporated Organisation was created to reflect the modern activities and focus of the organisation: The Friends of Fairford and Lechlade Communities.
We now brand ourselves under this new charity and carry out the majority of activities under the The Friends of Fairford and Lechlade Communities umbrella. However from a legal perspective the League of Friends charity remains active and both charities are managed by our Joint Board of Trustees.
You can find out more about the changes in this FAQ guide.
